Some people in the world live in a world of uncontrolled excessive sleep while outsiders look at it on a scale from slight laziness to sever depression complicated by physical problems. Most people love sleeping in a same way as they love eating and can easily spend hours taking a sound sleep but for a group of suffers it is a real problem. As excessive body weight can lead to numerous health problems such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, blood pressure and so on, similarly sleeping too much can also lead to various health issues. Excessive Sleep Is Not The Norm
Usually people sleep for about seven to eight hours at a stretch and mostly feel refresh on waking up after a sound sleep. However, sometimes, people continue to sleep for still longer durations and feel much worse than before. Actually when you sleep for abnormally long durations, it disturbs your circadian rhythm. Actually this rhythm is responsible for indicating us our approximate sleeping time. With excessive sleep, a person can feel severe headaches and may even experience problems in concentrating on any work. This is a sign of impending sleeping disorder.
If you continue to sleep for a long duration, you may not feel fresh because you fail to enter the deeper stages of sleep and for this reason your body may try to compensate it by sleeping for a longer time. This may also indicate some serious conditions like narcolepsy or sleep apnea. In sleep apnea, a suffering person fails to achieve deeper stages of sleep because his brain keeps on sending the signals to him to wake up when he is experiencing lack of oxygen. Such people usually have trouble in normal breathing during nights and will wake up many times.
People suffering from narcolepsy can fall asleep even during daytime even if they have slept for full night. Sometimes, people experiencing such conditions may not be suffering from any disorder and can simply solve this problem by taking sufficient sunlight. The natural sleeping cycle of the body will be regulated by absorbing enough sunlight and this will help a person in achieving much better sleep.
Excessive Sleep Can Be Harmful
Sleeping for long hours can cause your body temperature to remain low and it may not rise as fast. Therefore, you may feel sluggish and sleepy in the morning. As you may feel tired, you may do less of exercises and this will keep your body temperature low thereby creating a vicious cycle. If a person sleeps for abnormally long durations, he may stay awake for a lesser duration for creating a sleep quality for the coming night. As their body may not get exposed to sufficient sunlight during the day, they may feel sleepy even during the day.
Many studies have proved that state three or four (deeper stages of sleep) are most restorative for our body. It is in these stages that our body regenerates. These stages occur during first five hours of our sleep and the rest of the time is spent in dreaming or in experiencing lighter stages. All immune system repairs and strengthening in body takes place in third and fourth stages. Therefore, it is necessary for us to take that kind of sleep.
If you feel that you are suffering from some sleep disorder or are experiencing excessive sleep (too much sleep), you should seek out a doctor for a thorough medical checkup as this disorder can even threaten your life.
